I rage quit Facebook and Instagram. I’m close to doing the same with X. Social media is just a pile of shit it is unfathomable.
Content creators made a huge mistake when they left their blogs for things like Facebook or Twitter.
They gave up their freedom and control over their content and pretty much got given a middle finger in return. Sure, in some cases there was some monetization, but from where I sit it doesnt seem like it was worth it.
I quit Facebook for a lot of reason. Biggest reason is the algorithm. I don’t see the posts I want to see. I see shit the algorithm thinks I want to see and it’s pretty much wrong.
The problem on X is that if I click into a post their algorithm thinks my feed needs to be filled with posts like that. Click on a peptide post – my whole feed is filled with the bros talking about GLPs and BPC.
Same with AI. I made the mistake of reading a few posts about OpenClaw. Holyshit! Entire wall of posts about crypto bros running 30 mac minis with a hundred Clawbots doing their bidding and taking over the world. Posts about how some dude wrote some notes about trading and now their OpenClaw agent is making them $5000 a day trading Onlyfans subscriptions.
If you didnt know better you’d think every fucker on the street is jabbing peptides and has a room full of Mac Minis running Openclaw.
so yeah – this aint working.
I still like YouTube. It’s algorithm isnt as stupid.
But I’m returning to the old ways. No more Zitbook, No Instathot, and X is probably going to be blocked as well.
I’m going to start posting on my blog again and bring Guerillaprogrammer.com back to life.
I had fun with it back in the day. It was growing. I had decent traffic. Not huge, but enough. I was posting stuff about building integrations with Microsoft BizTalk. Building applications on .NET. Talking about learning new things. It was cool.
Long form content. No navigating around stupid 280 character display limits.
My plan is to pair my YouTube channel with the blog.
I still like Youtube. Doing visual stuff and talking about what I’m doing is fun. I also want to get better at creating this kind of content. Simultaneously, some things just need the written word. Sure, I share my code on GitHub, but having my blog to mix the code with written explanations of what is going on is often helpful.
I think a mixed approach of video (YouTube), Code (github), and written word (guerillaprogrammer.com) will be a winning combination.
I’m still not niching down in the usual Youtube sense. The niche is still my ‘high tech lifestyle’ thing. In some ways this shift/addition makes sense and is fitting.
UPDATE
Just realized I posted this to my blog w/o mentioning where my YouTube channel & Github repos are:
